Largemouth Yellowfish – Smallmouth Yellowfish
SEASON: July – October
DURATION: 6 Nights – 5 Days Fishing
GUESTS: 2-4
Kalahari Drift tours are completely self-sufficient mobile wilderness camping adventures. Arc inflatable canoes are used by guides and guests to move from campsite to campsite, to carry equipment and a base from which to fish as you drift your way down the river. This trip is aimed at the adventurous angler, with an appetite for a wilderness experience, and a good level of fitness. Due to the white water sections, we only recommend this adventure for those anglers who are comfortable in the water. The pristine wilderness camping experience, adrenaline-charged white water sections, and stark beauty of the Kalahari Desert will have you spilling stories of beers & BBQ’s for years to come.
Fishing the Kalahari Drift
This package is aimed at targeting the very elusive & prized Largemouth Yellowfish over a remote 35km section of the lower Orange River, known as the Onseepkans Gorge, in the Kalahari Desert. Fishing is done in one of two ways: either from an Ark inflatable canoe or on foot, stalking the banks.
With four anglers max per trip this tour is ideally suited for adventurous and like-minded mates who love to chase fish and enjoy roughing it in the wild. The two professional fly fishing guides assigned to each party will rotate amongst the guests, in their own Ark canoes. Also, where necessary, professional white water guides will ensure safe navigation through the tumbling rapids… just adding to the adventure.
Although Largemouth Yellowfish (Largies) are the focus of this trip, the Smallmouth Yellowfish fishing is excellent, and big fish are taken on streamers regularly while fishing for Largies.
