Luxury thatch and canvas camp – 8 Tents in Total –Max 16 guests
Deka Camp Hwange National Park is nestled in the low foothills in the far northwest of Zimbabwe. This small camp consists of eight units, made of thatch, local rock, and canvas. The camp is uniquely located and isolated and overlooks the Deka floodplains. It is this floodplain that seeps to create the headwaters of the Deka river that flows east to the Zambezi River.
Activities
Located in the most remote part of Hwange, Deka Camp offers guests the opportunity to walk and game drive some of the wildest and pristine areas in Southern Africa. Situated within a private concession of Hwange also means guests at Deka Camp can also partake in night drives.
Game drives
Game drives take place each morning & afternoon, and always depart from camp. Each drive will explore the river systems and plains around the camp and lasts approximately 3 hours. The wildlife in the area is prolific with excellent chances to see larger predators, herds of elephant, buffalo and all the plains animals that occur here. Night drives begin in the early evening and offer guests a chance to see smaller more nocturnal animals with spotlights.
Walking safaris
Walking safaris are conducted in the morning with armed guides. Walks are leisurely and time is taken to observe the smaller things in the bush that one normally misses when driving. Walking is weather & guide dependent, or dependent on the condition of the terrain.
